Ogre Burger

Thursday night marked the official launch of BAGA Manila, abbreviation for the newly formed BBQ and Grillers Association, at the Salamanca Nightmarket & Food Hawkers, in A Venue parking, Makati Avenue. BAGA is organized by the lovely Ms Dawn Mawis. (So nice this lady, so warm and welcoming even though every little detail of the event seemed to be screaming for her attention.)

GMA7's Hanep Buhay surprised BAGA Manila that evening with a branding package (four different logos, website design and one year-hosting for FREE), scheduled to air 7AM this Saturday. (Shameless plugging for mah homie, Ella.)

Now about Salamanca: think Banchetto, Mercato and Salcedo. It's basically just like every other night souk in the metro. You get a parking lot rounded by booths serving a wide array of affordable, delicious food; modest entertainment; a hungry crowd and well, a full stomach by the end of the night. It's on every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 5PM to 3AM the next day.

At places/events like Salamanca, you can never go wrong with barbecue and other grilled things. The things on the sticks were really enticing (and there were LOTS of them) - especially isaw! (intestine) ISAW GIRL ALERT - and we were already about to order when we noticed Ogre Burger's booth.

According to their Facebook page, Ogre Burger had its humble beginnings in Caltex Shaw/Pioneer, but has now moved out to serve at Salamanca every weekend and Dos Muchos Food Zone in Poblacion.

Their burgers are homemade recipes and are available in pork, beef and chicken. The basic burger, the Ogre Burger, is appetizing in itself but um...when bacon is available, bacon we shall ask for. And the Ogre Supreme is where the bacon is.

Ogre's Supreme (P140) is basically: soft beef patty, bacon strips, hashbrown and TLC, sandwiched in sesame burger buns.

I admit that it was curiosity and malicious desire to compare it with the Monster Burger and Jollibee's Hashbrown Burger that prompted me to try out the Ogre. I was so wrong to even begin thinking it as a rip-off. The Ogre Burger, especially the Ogre's Supreme burger, stands on its own. I'm not saying it's better, but it's different. The patty is grilled soft, exactly the way I like my meat done, and flavorful. Plus hashbrown, plus bacon = plus plus plus points from a girl who is really moody when it comes to burgers.

Must tryyyy!

  5. Ogreburger is already out of Dos Muchos Food Zone after the place closed down. The owners are focused on bringing out its full potential in the night market... Now steady with its operations @ Salamanca Food Hawkers in Makati Avenue every Thursadays to Saturdays :)
