Awesome Picks for December: Recommended Books

Awesome Picks for December: Recommended Books | Awesome in Manila

I only got into reading near the end of college. I hated it back in high school. I was so much into TV then, I didn't want anything else eating up my time. I try but really can't remember what is it that finally got me into books, but I believe the first one I ever did read willingly was Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. That was, in many ways, life-changing.

Unlike with movies, I don't have a target number of books to read for 2011. I usually take a long time finishing one so setting deadlines wouldn't be so productive. Also, in choosing titles, I'm really biased with best-sellers. I feel like I'm wasting not only time, but also effort and a lotta brain cells into books that fail to interest, so I stick to the stories already bought by many.

# 1 - Lord of the Flies by William Golding
# 2 - Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult
# 3 - The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
# 4 - Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
# 5 - The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
# 6 - Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
# 7 - Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez
# 8 - Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
# 9 - Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks
# 10 - A Time to Kill by John Grisham
# 11 - Pelican Brief by John Grisham
# 12 - Veronika Decides to Die by Paulo Coelho
# 13 - Infinite Crisis by Greg Cox
# 14 - The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
# 15 - The Carrie Diaries by Candance Bushnell
# 16 - The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
# 17 - Pygmy by Chuck Palahniuk

Infinite Crisis was hard to put down. It really got my geek on. I just finished Ricky Lee's Para Kay B yesterday and it didn't really get through to me. I'm about to start John Grisham's The Brethren and I have a feeling it will get me hooked.
